Thick and Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies
  • 2-1/4 c. Western Family Flour, unsifted
  • 1 t. Western Family Baking Soda
  • ½ t. Western Family Salt
  • 1 c. Western Family Shortening
  • ¾ c. Western Family Granulated Sugar
  • ¾ c. Western Family Brown Sugar
  • 1-1/2 t. Western Family Vanilla
  • 2 Western Family Eggs
  • 2 c. Western Family Chocolate Chips (12 oz.)
  • ¾ c. Western Family Chopped Walnuts
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Combine flour, baking soda and salt and set aside.
  3. Cream shortening and sugars until fluffy. Add vanilla and eggs and beat until fluffy.
  4. Add flour, baking soda and salt mixture to shortening mixture and mix with a spoon until blended.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips and walnuts.
  6. Chill dough for 30 minutes.
  7. Take a heaping tablespoon of dough and roll into a ball. Place each ball approximately 2 inches apart on a greased cookie sheet. Using the the palm of your hand press the dough ball until it is half its original height.
  8. Bake 10-15 minutes at 350°F until lightly browned.
  9. Remove the cookie sheet from oven and place cookies on a cooling rack.
