Serves: 1½ dozen
  • 2 c. Western Family Flour
  • 3-1/2 t. ground ginger
  • 1 t. Western Family Ground Cinnamon
  • 1 t. Western Family Ground Cloves
  • ¼ t. Western Family Ground Black Pepper
  • 2 t. Western Family Baking Soda
  • ½ t. Western Family Salt
  • 1 c. crystallized ginger, chopped
  • ¾ c. Western Family Unsalted Butter
  • 1 c. Western Family Dark Brown Sugar
  • 1 Western Family Egg
  • ¼ c. molasses
  • Western Family Granulated Sugar
  1. Combine flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, pepper, baking soda, salt and crystallized ginger in a bowl. Mix together with a fork.
  2. Use an electric mixer to beat butter and brown sugar until fluffy.
  3. Add egg and molasses and beat well, scraping down the sides of the bowl as needed.
  4. Add flour mixture to the butter mixture and mix on low speed until blended.
  5. Cover and refrigerate until dough is cold.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly grease baking sheets.
  7. In a shallow bowl, spread a 1” thick layer of sugar.
  8. Spoon out a heaping tablespoon of dough and roll into 1-1/2” ball. Roll balls in sugar, coating completely. Place balls on baking sheets, spacing 2” apart.
  9. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until tops are cracked and slightly brown.
  10. Cool on sheets.
